THE INTERNATIONAL BRIDGE BETWEEN BAUDETTE AND RAINY RIVER,  ONTARIO WAS COMPLETED LAST WEEK. THE OLD BRIDGE HAD BEEN BUILT IN  1959.

THE ROSEAU COUNTY BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  HEARD FROM AUDITOR COLLEEN HOFFMAN, WHO GAVE THE COUNTY  AN  “A-PLUS” FOR IT’S FINANCIAL STANDING. THE GENERAL FUND BALANCE AT THE END OF  2019 WAS  FOUR-POINT-SIX MILLION DOLLARS.   AUDITORS RECOMMEND COUNTIES HAVE BETWEEN 35 AND 50%  OF YEARLY EXPENDITURES IN A RESERVE  FUND;  ROSEAU COUNTY’S FUND BALANCE IS JUST OVER HALF OF YEARLY SPENDING.

THE ROSEAU SCHOOL BOARD MEETS THIS EVENING IN REGULAR MONTHLY SESSION. THE BOARD,  LAST WEEK,  APPROVED FLEXIBLE LEARNING FRIDAYS FOR ALL GRADES,  STARTING OCTOBER  30TH. SUPERINTENDENT TOM JEROME SAYS THE MENTAL HEALTH OF SCHOOL STAFF DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC IS A MAJOR ISSUE ….

ELECTION DAY IS TWO WEEKS FROM TOMORROW.    MOST OF ROSEAU COUNTY WILL CAST ABSENTEE OR MAIL-IN BALLOTS THIS YEAR,  DUE TO THE PANDEMIC; BUT THERE WILL BE IN-PERSON VOTING AVAILABLE IN ROSEAU,  WARROAD,  GREENBUSH,  MORANVILLE TOWNSHIP AND THE COUNTY AUDITOR’S OFFICE …

THE ROSEAU CITY COUNCIL,  EARLIER THIS MONTH,  TALKED ABOUT A FIVE STALL PRIVATE HANGAR AT THE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WHICH WILL HAVE TO BE TORN DOWN AS PART OF AN ONGOING AIRPORT PROJECT. THE OWNERS OF THE OLD HANGAR APPARENTLY DON’T WANT TO BEAR THE COST OF DEMOLITION,  SO THE CITY COULD REMOVE THE BUILDING AFTER OWNERSHIP IS TRANSFERRED.

UNIVERSITY of MINNESOTA EXTENSION HAS BEEN LOOKING FOR MORE MASTER GARDENERS ACROSS THE STATE, ESPECIALLY IN COUNTIES THAT DON’T HAVE ONE;  ROSEAU COUNTY IS ONE OF THOSE. EXTENSION EDUCATOR  JACKIE  FROEMMING,  IN BRAINERD,  SAYS INTEREST IN THE PROGRAM IS GROWING …

SERVICES ARE PENDING FOR JUNE MAGNUSSON OF ROSEAU.  SHE WAS  94.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ARE PENDING FOR VERNON  SKOGLUND OF MIDDLE RIVER.   HE WAS  90.

THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SAYS ROSEAU COUNTY HAS  HAD  189  CONFIRMED CORONAVIRUS CASES  SINCE EARLY APRIL. THERE ARE  36 CURRENT ACTIVE CASES. THE CASE COUNT IN ROSEAU COUNTY IS UP  31 OVER THE PAST WEEK. THERE WERE  158 TOTAL CASES A WEEK AGO,  WITH  21 OF THOSE ACTIVE.

LUTHERAN SOCIAL SERVICES WILL PROVIDE FREE MEALS FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS NEXT MONDAY  (October 26/  2-4 PM)  AT THE WANNASKA COMMUNITY CENTER, THROUGH A COVID-19 GRANT FROM THE MINNESOTA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. THERE’S NO AGE OR INCOME LIMIT,  AND EACH PERSON GETS FIVE MEALS AND FIVE SNACKS.
